SOPHIE CUDWORTH

I’m Sophie, and I am an award winning personal jewellery designer. I design and illustrate in a specialist style known as gouache rendering. Its a centuries old artform that enables designers to communicate their ideas to their goldsmiths so that no detail is lost. Very few designers working these days know this precious skill, while for me it is the backbone of my process.

I adore the use of colour, and through this painted medium I bring my designs to life. They provide a beautiful rendering for clients to approve a design, and practical tool for my workshop to craft from. They are designed 2:1 scale and I pride myself in accuracy, visualising every angle before drawing it out. The best part of this process is that I give these one of a kind artworks to my clients with their finished piece, making the whole experience all the more special.

I trained at the Birmingham School of Jewellery and have spent the last 17years working with, and for, some of the best people in our trade. It was through this experience that led me to establish my eponymous brand in 2022. I work closely with the best crafts people in our trade to ensure that all of my jewellery is made to the highest standard.

In March of 2024 I was awarded Gold in the 2D Category for the Goldsmiths Craft and Design Council Annual Awards, after previously shortlisting for Jewellery Designer of the Year in 2015 and being included in Retail Jewellers 30 under 30 Rising Stars in 2016.

Getting to know my clients is my favourite part of the job. Designing them the perfect piece of jewellery is challenging and rewarding in equal measure!
